Healthy eating lowers the risk for obesity as well as many chronic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and some cancers (CDC). In the United States, fewer than 1 in 10 children eat the recommended daily amount of vegetables (CDC [PDF – 3.66 MB]), and only 2 in 5 eat the recommended amount of fruit (CDC).
